Plain Speak (December 2008)Web page/web site – The World Wide Web consists of web pages that use text, graphics and sounds to communicate. A web site is a connected group of pages forming a single unit, usually maintained by one person or organization and devoted to a single subject or closely related subjects. All web sites open to the public make up the World Wide Web. Typically, the home pages of web sites have an “address” called a URL that allows anyone around the world to find them. Web sites reside on a server. A server is actually a computer that runs special software in order to direct traffic and respond to requests. There are millions of servers running all the time around the world and provide a wide variety of services including email, instant messaging, World Wide Web access, audio and video.
